Below you will find just a few of the local attractions within easy driving range of Filey: -

Historic York
York is one of the oldest cities in England with a rich history stretching from Roman times through the Dark Ages, when it was the capital of a thriving Viking kingdom, to the glorious architecture of the Middle Ages and beyond. No visit to North Yorkshire is complete without at least one day spent in York. Enjoy a visit to York Dungeon, the Jorvik Viking Centre, or the historic Minster, or just take some time ambling around the old streets visiting a cafe or two and drinking in the atmosphere.

Whitby
Whitby is one of England's most scenic and well-loved seaside resorts, made famous as the embarkation point of Bram Stoker's Dracula and still host to an annual Gothic festival. Whitby today is a beautiful town of brightly painted houses, gorgeous fish and chip shops, cliff top walks and the haunting Whitby Abbey.

Scarborough
Britain's oldest seaside resort, as a holiday destination, Scarborough really does have it all; dramatic cliffs and castle headland, award-winning beaches, historic harbor, great family attractions, booming town center, huge choice of accommodation and a warm Yorkshire welcome to match. Scarborough's proximity to Dalby: Yorkshire's Great Forest, The North York Moors National Park, the Wolds and the dramatic scenery of the Yorkshire Coast makes Scarborough a perfect base from which to explore this most diverse region of Britain.

Filey - Perfect for Families
With its glorious sweep of soft, golden sand, Filey beach is one of the best in the country for families - it's so huge that, no matter how busy it gets, it's never crowded.

It's the perfect place to take a walk, fly a kite, build a sandcastle, snooze in a deckchair, or maybe do a spot of birdwatching - Filey Brigg, a peninsula at the northern end of the town. Early spring may find you face to face with a snoozing seal on the beach, and in summer porpoise sightings are regular. Then why not follow it up with a trip to the much-loved Coble Landing, a slipway with a picturesque jumble of boats and kiosks, for a cuppa and a bacon buttie?

The town, too, is full of gentle pleasures, with its Edwardian architecture, quirky shops and intriguing museum. And - it's official! - Filey boasts the second best B&B in the entire world: TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards 2014.

Bridlington - East Yorkshire's Favourite Resort
The family, the foodie, the shopper, the history buff, the culture vulture: there's definitely something for everyone in East Yorkshire's favourite resort, Great Bridlington. Elegant, award-winning promenades, glorious golden beaches, an historic harbour, and a fascinating and arty Old Town packed with quirky shops - is it any wonder that one of this country's greatest artists, David Hockney, made it his home for many years and drew his inspiration from the nearby Yorkshire Wolds.

The North York Moors - Such a Special Place
Some of Yorkshire's best-loved villages fall within the boundaries of that most special of locations - the dramatic North York Moors National Park. Stretching from above Scarborough in the south, to just beyond Staithes in the north, and inland to Helmsley, Osmotherley and Kilburn, the park's many treasures include, on the Heritage Coast, Ravenscar, Robin Hood's Bay, Sandsend and Runswick Bay; and inland, gorgeous moorland villages such as Rosedale Abbey, Lealholm, Hutton le Hole and Danby, all scattered with spectacular and world-known heritage sites, including the Abbeys at Rievaulx and Byland, and Helmsley Castle. And did you know that the Park is home to one of the world's most popular heritage railways, running between Pickering and Whitby, and to a leading dark matter research facility at Boulby?
