Kilt Rock

Kilt Rock, Elishader, Isle of Skye, Scotland

Kilt Rock - Sheer cliffs and waterfall drama on Skye's Trotternish coast.

On the northeast shore of Skye's Trotternish Peninsula, the basalt columns of Kilt Rock rise in striking pleats, resembling the folds of a Scottish kilt. Beside it, the Mealt Falls plunge 60 metres straight into the sea, creating one of Scotland's most photogenic scenic viewpoints.

From the viewing platform you can watch the water tumble into the waves below, framed by sweeping views across the Sound of Raasay. Seabirds wheel overhead, seals may be spotted offshore, and the mix of cliff and ocean makes it a favourite stop for wildlife watching. The easy roadside access also makes it an adventure highlight for families exploring the Trotternish loop.

Plan your visit as part of a drive around the peninsula - parking is limited at the viewpoint, so arrive early in peak season. Use Google Maps directions to find the site easily.
