Shetland Textile Museum

Shetland Textile Museum, Lerwick, Shetland Isles, Scotland

Shetland Textile Museum is a community museum in Lerwick, Shetland the only one of its kind dedicated to the islands textile heritage, and is housed in the Böd of Gremista.

This is a restored fishing station, and is particularly special as the birthplace of Arthur Anderson, himself a champion of Shetland textiles who gifted Queen Victoria with stockings in Shetland fine lace. Apart from several exhibition rooms, featuring Fair Isle and fine lace knitting and weaving, there are demonstrators working every day at the Bod. You will meet skilled practitioners of knitting, spinning and occasionally weaving. They will be pleased to meet you and tell you about Shetland knitwear and answer any questions you may have about techniques, patterns or yarn. There is also a small gift shop, where high quality products from makers from all over the islands can be purchased.

Entry fee is £3. Unlimited access to the Shetland Textile Museum for the season costs £5.
