James Orpwood Mountaineering

James Orpwood Mountaineering, Aviemore, Highlands, Scotland

James Orpwood Mountaineering, Aviemore provides guided hill walking (summer and winter), a range of navigation and hill skills courses, and winter skills courses for individuals and small groups in the Highlands of Scotland, from the Cairngorms to Ben Nevis and beyond.

They will plan a fantastic day for you and your group in the spectacular scenery of Scotland's mountains. Whether you want to climb your first Munro, tick off a classic round of Munros, tackle a Cairngorms giant in the depths of winter, climb Ben Nevis, learn or brush up on your navigation skills, learn the essentials to keep you safe in winter, or simply enjoy a few days in the hills, James Orpwood Mountaineering has something for you.

And if all this talk of mountains sounds too energetic, they also offer a range of low-level walks exploring some of the glens, forests, rivers and lochs of either the Cairngorms National Park or Highland Perthshire. Join them for a low-level walk with the family, perhaps to spot some local wildlife whilst taking in some natural history and culture.

If you are on holiday and wish to explore, but don't know where to start, they can take you straight to all the best places!

During your time with them, you will be looked after by Winter Mountain Leader, James, a former fisheries scientist who decided to pursue his true passion in life - sharing his love of Scotland's mountains and wild places with others. James has been exploring the Scottish hills for nearly 20 years, having first moved to Scotland to pursue a career in science. His story, from mad keen angler and fisheries scientist - to finding professional and personal fulfilment in the mountains, is told in his debut book, A Quest For Fulfilment, published by Grosvenor House Publishing in October 2020. James lives with his wife in Aviemore, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.
