Sgorr na Ciche

Sgorr na Ciche, Ballachulish, Argyll, Scotland

Sgorr na Ciche - distinctive mountain above Ballachulish offering a challenging climb and spectacular Highland views.

Sgorr na Ciche, commonly known as the Pap of Glencoe, is a distinctive mountain rising above the village of Glencoe and the shores of Loch Leven. Its steep, pointed profile makes it one of the most recognisable landmarks in the area, standing prominently at the western end of the Aonach Eagach ridge and providing a dramatic backdrop to the surrounding Highland landscape.

The climb to the summit is relatively short compared with many Highland mountain routes, but the steep ascent and rough terrain make it a demanding walk. The route climbs through woodland and open hillside before becoming increasingly rocky towards the summit. From the top, walkers are rewarded with outstanding panoramic views over Loch Leven, Glencoe, the surrounding mountains and towards the west coast.

Sgorr na Ciche is best suited to experienced and properly equipped hillwalkers, with steep, rocky and uneven ground encountered along the route. Mountain weather can change quickly, so suitable footwear, clothing and navigation equipment are essential. Despite its modest height compared with neighbouring Munros, the combination of a challenging ascent and exceptional summit views makes the Pap of Glencoe one of the most rewarding shorter mountain walks in the Glencoe area.
