Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery

Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery, Alnwick, Northumberland, England

Housed in a refurbished Grade 2 listed church building, Bailiffgate Museum and Gallerys unique setting provides a dramatic backdrop to its extensive collection.

There is much to marvel at inside, original stained-glass windows, decorative interiors and the church organ. Explore the rich history of the market town, Alnwick, and surrounding areas, particularly significant as a central point during years of conflict between Scotland and England.

Voted by Families to receive the Kids in Museums Family Friendly Award in 2021, there are many activities for children including our Mouse Hunt and Museum Detective quiz, crawling through a mine, trying on Border Reiver armour and dressing up as an Edwardian school child.

Two floors are dedicated to a permanent collection of artefacts, documents, photographs, and audio-visual content celebrating local history, while the third floor is used as an exhibition and events space, with a rolling programme of exhibitions taking place year-round. The museum also celebrates the abundance of arts and crafts created locally.

Open: Tuesdays to Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from mid January to mid December.

Tariff: Adult £5, Concession £4, Child 5 to 16 £1, Under 5s free.
