Zoos and Safari Parks of England, Wales and Scotland

Britain has an extensive range of collections of living animals that range from the zoos to the butterfly parks, from safari parks to horse and donkey sanctuaries, so whichever animal, bird, butterfly, rare breed, insect or fish you prefer, there is something for everyone.

Around the world many species of wild animals are in danger of becoming extinct, but within the modern day zoo there are careful managed breeding programmes to increase the population of endangered species with the aim to releasing them in the wild, this together with the education of the general public regarding conservation goes a long way to helping maintain and increase the wildlife numbers.

On a 36 acre site situated in the north east corner of London's Regent Park sits London Zoo, one of the world's oldest zoos, where the visitor can view over 720 different species of animals. Education as regards to animal welfare and conservation can be directed to our children in a variety of ways. London Zoo provides facilities for schools to visit and experience a unique way of learning all about animal welfare whether it is investigating hair, feathers and scales, or maybe a touchy feely session with fun exploring the senses.

At the other end of Britain, set in 82 acres of beautiful parkland outside Edinburgh lies Edinburgh Zoo, by far the largest animal attraction in Scotland, which opened to the public in 1913. Here the visitor can enjoy viewing the animals ,as well as free hilltop safari rides with commentary, keeper talks and hands-on animal encounter sessions. Edinburgh Zoo is one of Europe's leading centres of conservation, education and research helping to ensure the survival of threatened animal species.
